HOW TO START A SQUARE FOOT GARDEN & ADVANTAGES| GARDENING IN SMALL PLACES

The founder of square foot gardening is Mel Bartholomew but is  a variant of the farming method called the Biointensive method or the French Intensive method.

But how do you garden using this method? What are the benefits of planting a square foot garden? That is what I will be telling you all about in this post.

YOU CAN START YOUR SQUARE FOOT GARDEN IN 2 STEPS:

STEP 1 - Build a Raised Bed, a homemade wood frame with old lumber, a brand new one from Home Depot( in a box ready to be put together), cinder blocks, bricks, whatever you have laying around and can put together to create this raised bed or box looking frame to put on the ground fill with potting soil and get started.

STEP 2 - Divide your raise bed into different sections of 1 square foot each.Use this  seeding square tool to know exactly the spacing and how many seeds per square foot.
You also have the template to create the square foot you need for different crops, all in one.

If you thought it would be more complicated, it really isn't if you don't want to use the tool for planting just grab a ruler, and space the seeds or plants according to the back of your seed packet.

ADVANTAGES OF SQUARE FOOT GARDENING

Greens divided in a square foot garden

🌱 With square foot gardening, it is possible to produce a lot of vegetables even with a small space and you can can plant different kinds of vegetables that help each other.
For instance, you can  plant beans, cabbages, greens, onions and peppers in the same bed so they can support one another and still fit in a small space. It is a WIN-WIN situation.
No more 1 row of this or that, now you have varieties that help each other.

🌱 The method of square foot gardening is 100% organic.
Once you harvest your plants, just simply add a handful of compost in the holes and then plant again, is that simple.

🌱  If there is an area in your garden which is full of weeds, you can simply place your square foot garden on top of that area to immediately cover it up and get rid of those nasty weeds.
All you need to do is to block the weeds from underneath with weed block or cardboard block ( if you have cardboard at home then it is free weed blocking material) , they both work.

🌱 It is very easy to set up and, if you plan it right you can plant in batches so you can harvest at different times instead of a huge amount that would be hard to eat fast enough to avoid spoilage.
