STEP 1: Place the hanging basket on an empty bucket and line it with an environmentally friendly material such as Coir liner.
STEP 2: Half fill the lined basket with a potting medium mixed with a slow-release fertilizer.
☼ Do not firm down.
☼ If you intend to have trailing plants, make small holes in the sides of the liner using scissors or, if necessary, a utility knife.
STEP 3: With both hands, carefully pull the roots of the trailing plant through the hole or cut the liner.
STEP 4: As each layer of plants is added, cover the roots with potting mix and firm in gently.
STEP 5: Add another layer of potting mix until the basket is nearly 3/4 full.
STEP 6: For the top layer of planting, place your tallest and largest plans in the middle of the basket and firm gently.
STEP 7: Add the remaining plants, giving careful consideration to an aesthetic and balanced display.
STEP 8: When planting is finished, gently firm the soil before adding the final layer of the potting mix, which should come to just below the rim of the container.
STEP 9: Water the basket thoroughly but carefully, using a watering can with a fine tip.
STEP 10: Allow to stand for at least 10 minutes so that the excess water can drain out before the basket hangs in its final position.
Try it with strawberries, tomatoes or flowers, they look beautiful no matter what you choose.
